With the launch of the Wool Project by Prince Charles in 2010, and the importance of wool for the UK textile industry, this year’s one day SDC conference held on Tuesday 5 October took wool as its theme.
Although wool only represents around 3% of fibre usage in the UK, it has a significant role to play when we consider the environmental and sustainable issues surrounding textiles. This event looked at:
- The vital role of the wool industry in the UK and impact on the UK economy
- Its technical properties and diversity of uses
- The many benefits of using wool including its role in sustainability and as an environmentally friendly fibre
- The future – the use of technology, the innovations and the potential for wool.

The conference was followed by a drinks reception, a black-tie dinner, and the grand final of the SDC International Design Competition. The venue was the magnificent Clothworkers’ Hall in the heart of the City of London.
This new annual one day conference, co-hosted by SDC, Dyers’ Company and the Clothworkers’ Company is aimed at professionals working across the textile supply chain.
